Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park

Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park

Located at the north foot of the Qilian Mountain, 30 kilometers south of Linze County, Zhangye City of Gansu Province, Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park is a typical area of Chinese colorful Danxia landform with the best and largest geomorphic development in China. The Guardian pictured the landform here as China’s Rainbow Mountains.See http://www.theguardian.com/world/gallery/2013/aug/01/rainbow-mountains-china-in-pictures.

As the ancient geological relic, Danxia Landform was developed during the Jurassic Period and the Tertiary Period. It was produced due to the long time weathering and erosion of red sandstone generated during the Himalayas’ movement. The color of these spectacular stones and rocks looks like Lilium concolor and sunset glow.

What to See/Do: Zhangye has a typical Temperate Continental Climate. The period from June to September is the most intensive months of rain in a year; and also is the best period to visit this Park. The park is now famed for its magnificent scenery, wide area, spectacular shapes, and rich colors. The scenery is really a miraculous production of nature and is really good to watch. It now attracts more and more tourists and film directors to shoot here.
