Located between the northeastern part of Qinghai Province and the western part of Gansu Province, Qilian Mountains is one of the most important mountains in China.
The mountains are composed of several paralleled mountain ranges and wide valleys. It is 800 kilometers long from the east to the west and 200 to 400 kilometers wide from the south to the north. The average altitude is from 4,000 to 5,000 meters and it has 3,306 glaciers. The total area is about 2,062 square kilometers.
|What to See/Do:||The geomorphologic landscape is gorgeous and magnificent here. In addition, there are over 2,000,000 square meters of forest resources including spruces, Sabina chinensis and poplars etc. You will see flocks of deer in thick forest and snow mountain ridges. During winter you may see Chinese saussurea involucrate, silkworm and snow grass (Xueshancao). The four seasons on Qilian Mountains are not so distinct. There is a saying goes that “snow in June on Qilian Mountains”. The primitive forest scenery on these mountains is especially beauteous. After summer, there is a vast of greens on the mountains. The best season to visit Qilian Mountains is in July.When the temperature amounts to 35 degrees Celsius in Guangdong Province,but it is still spring on Qilian Mountains and the mountains are covered with rape flowers.|
