Gahai Lake is the largest highland freshwater lake of Gansu in Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gannan, as well as an important wetland at the eastern part of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Located on the 3,400-meter high Gahai prairie in Luqu County, here offers vast and high altitude beautiful scenery that gives people a sense of unity of heaven and man.

What to See/Do: There are abundant water resource and grass on and around the lake. Many precious species of birds stop over or breed here, such as black-necked cranes and Grey cranes. The best season to visit Gahai Lake is between July and October, when the prairie is completely covered with green grass and colorful wild flowers. Besides, flocks of birds also gather around Gahai Lake at this time period. This quiet and peaceful lake has not been disturbed by human construction till now. The mountain, stones, grass and flowers are all in their pure natural forms. This virgin lake has attracted more and more people these years for its natural scenery.

Public transport: You can take coaches that depart from Xiahe County or Hezuo City and buy the ticket to Langmu Temple. There is a stop on the way at Gahai Lake.
