Everest base camp refers to the zone, which is founded to protect core environment of Mount Everest. The camp is located on the place of 5,200 meters high. It is 19 kilometers straight-line distance far from summit of Mount Everest.

Everest base camp is located south of Rongbuk Monastery. It is composed of a group of tents. Among these tents are a piece of national flag and a flag of Mount Everest protect zone. The camp mainly offers accommodation to tourists. In the camp are toilet, tea house, store and post office for tourists’ convenience. The post office there is the highest one in China.

What to See/Do: Rongbuk Monastery: Located Dingri County and 90 kilometers far from center of the county, the monastery has a sea level of 5,154 meters. The terrain of the monastery is high and steep and cold. It is the highest temple, so the scenery of the monastery is magnificent. The new monastery was built in 1902. It was a large temple with more than 10 subordinate monasteries before including a nunnery. The monastery is about 20 kilometers far from summit of Mount Everest, so it becomes a camp for people to climb Mount Everest from north slope. In front of the grand hall is a stage where locals would come here to see Lamas performances on important festivals. The Marnyi stones are usually used as people’s shooting place. In addition, the frescos here are worth a careful appreciation.
Monument of 5,200 meters: The monument is 4 kilometers south of Everest base camp. You can take green car or by foot to the monument. Before arrived at the monument you will receive cautions from armed police.
